History

Hobgood Elementary School, established in 1955, is in Rutherford County, Murfreesboro, Tennessee. It is one of 13 elementary schools in the Murfreesboro City School district. The pre-k through sixth-grade school serves approximately 700 students in a traditional zone and accepts choice school applications. Hobgood was designated as a NASA Explorer School in 2005, has been named a National Title I Distinguished School, has been named in the top nine schools in Tennessee for Value Added Achievement, and is currently recognized as a model of demonstration school for the response to intervention and behavior framework.

Hobgood possesses immense historical significance to the city of Murfreesboro as being one of the oldest schools in the city. Among those who went to school at Hobgood are former U.S Representative Bart Gordon, Mayor Tommy Bragg, and City Councilman Doug Young.  

Hobgood has continuous solid partnerships with the community. The invested interest in the strong relationships Hobgood has formed with Middle Tennessee State University, faith-based organizations, and businesses contribute to the growth of our community.
